Additional Information

Internet Connectivity

Carnegie Learning software requires reliable broadband Internet access to Carnegie Learning software servers. The initial software launch requires a 7 MB download that is stored in the user’s local Java cache.

  • Wireless Connection: When using a wireless network, no more than 25-30 computers should be connecting to a single wireless access point at one time.

  • For Capacity Planning: For up to 30 concurrent student users, allocate a minimum of 1Mbps Internet bandwidth total. Beyond 50 concurrent student users, allocate an additional 16kbps per user. Bandwidth-intensive activities such as streaming video, audio downloads, VoIP, and database backups can affect performance of Carnegie Learning software. Packet-shaping, QoS, and network traffic prioritizing techniques on heavily trafficked networks can improve performance.

Tablet Compatibility

Teacher’s Toolkit (Carnegie Learning Cognitive Tutor and MATHia Class Management and Reporting tool) is now compatible with iPad® and a broad range of Android® tablets and mobile devices.

Please note that Cognitive Tutor and MATHia Student Software, Instructor Preview, and the ability to launch problems from the Curriculum Browser are not supported on tablets (including Chromebooks and iPads) at this time.

Notes:
  • Apple OS X requires the most current version of Java in order to run Java applications such as Carnegie Learning software. Make sure you have the most current version of Java for the version of OS X you're using.
  • Apple OS X users running Safari 6.1 or higher that need to use Text to Speech must adjust Safari’s security settings in order for Text to Speech to work. To change the plug-in blocking policy, choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, and then click Manage Website Settings. Choose Java 7 from the list on the left. Choose "2013.carnegielearning.com" from the list on the right. Choose "Run in unsafe mode" from the drop down menu. Using Firefox as your browser would be an alternative to this procedure.
  • Pop-ups must be allowed from *.carnegielearning.com
  • Carnegie Learning wildcard hostnames are *.carnegielearning.com and *.lms.carnegielearning.com
  • The TCP ports that should be allowed are 80 (http), 443 (ssl)
  • Some laptop computers require adjusted power management settings in order to run Carnegie Learning software properly when running on battery power.
  • Carnegie Learning software is not compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Services.
  • We cannot guarantee performance for systems not listed under our Minimum Supported specifications.
  • A School ID is required to use Carnegie Learning software.

Hardware and software technologies change frequently. Carnegie Learning reserves the right to make changes to these system requirements at any time.
